Amaryllis reticulata: seedling

Product Description

Amaryllis reticulata is a miniature hippeastrum species from Brazil. We collected this species many many years ago before there was such a thing as CITES. As far as we know, we’re the only ones selling this plant. We grow our plants from the limited seed that’s produced each year.
The unique thing about about this species is the dark forest green leaves that have a bright white stripe down the center of each leaf, so when the plant isn’t in flower, it makes a GREAT conversation piece. The flowers are pretty spectacular too: Bright fluorescent pink with darker pink checker-board or tessellation patterns in them.
Unlike many Amaryllis, you don’t want to let these plants go dormant. Their growth may slow down in the winter, but don’t let them go completely dry and dormant. Its hard to get them to grow again if you do. Like the Butterfly species H. papillio, treat this as an ever-green plant.
Once bulbs get large enough (2-3 years) they will bloom and produce babies readily to create a massive clump of plants. Blooming seems to be encouraged when plants are pot-bound and busting the plant. We use clay pots for our adult plants because they will bust a plastic one.

The plant you are purchasing here is a 1-2 year old seedling in a 2-inch pot or smaller. Remember - these are miniature Amaryllis.
