African Violet/Phalaenopsis Potting Mix 1 gallon Bag

Traditional African Violet mixes are much too "heavy" for the average home grower. Growers of high quality show plants prefer a much "lighter" mix and have to make their own. A good "light" mix has much less milled sphagnum peat and more perlite, which allows the roots of your plants to breath and grow. Our mix is 1/3 milled sphagnum peat, 1/3 vermiculite and 1/3 large perlite. We use this mix for both wick watering and overhead watering of our violets. If you like an even lighter mix, or wish to make your own, we sell these ingredients separately as well.

We also use this mix to grow our Phalaenopsis orchid in. Repotting them every year keeps the mix fresh and clean which prevents root rot - the major cause of orchid death in the home.
We have found that it is very important that you allow the mix to go dry between watering when using this mix with your Phalaenopsis.
