Blooming inflorescence
Item: Coelogyne massangiana Blooming Orchid Species in 5-inch pot
Description:
Coelogyne species are one of the less appreciated orchids because many people think they are cool growers and hard to grow. WRONG! This species likes it warm and flowers like crazy this time of year in Washington DC’s 90F heat!
The species massangiana, is also known as the Rattlesnake Orchid because the emerging inflorescence looks like a huge rattle on a rattlesnake. But don’t blink, you can almost see the inflorescence grow as the buds separate and the flower spike elongates to 2 or 3 feet or more with cream colored flowers with milk-chocolate lips.
This is no windowsill orchid – it grows quickly into a huge specimen plant.
Flowers last several weeks with a very nice fragrance.
If you have the space you’ll want this in your collection. It’s simply fantastic to watch grow and bloom.
