Please Note: Plants in our flasks are the size we use to populate our own compots and should grow well for you if properly cared for. Since these plants are very tender and it takes some skill to grow these on, we do not guarantee your success.
We have also experienced difficulties when mailing flasks due to the rough handling during transit. Unfortunately, sometimes flasks are received with their contents all jumbled up and plants broken and/or contamination after a few days. Since we have no control over this, we can't guarantee against these unfortunate situations. We STRONGLY suggest sending your plants out-of-flask and bare root so we can guarantee their safe delivery and your satisfaction. When ordering your flasks, just make a note on the order form how you want us to ship your plants - bare root or in flask. It would be best to email us at sales@orchidenterprise.com , to make sure we get your instructions.
Shipping is also a lot less since we're not shipping heavy glass bottles and bulky packing material.
Growing your plants from flask
There are as many methods of growing plants from flask as there are people doing it. We've tried hundreds of methods from mini-domes over the plants to low-light greenhouses to bagging them up and poking holes in the bag every few days. It seems the more effort we put into growing them, the poorer the results. The same holds true, regardless of the genera we take from flask. Most people are surprised to learn that we take our Cattleya seedlings, pot them up in compots using most any seedling mix and put them with the rest of our seedlings and mini-Catts under 1000 Watt HID lights that are about 3 feet away from the benches. We've been told by 'experts' that plants in flask do not photosynthesize and that all their nutrients for growth come from the media that they grow in. This gave us the idea to treat the plants from flask as if they were simply large seeds that provide a source of nutrients and energy for the new growth in their new environment. Growing them in bright light from the start and treating them like adult plants, seems to work for us. If we're de-flasking plants that prefer to grow moist and humid as adults, that's how we grow the seedlings.
